Bouldering

Description

Hin Changsi and Zoolander are considered one of the largest bouldering areas in South East Asia, located at Nam Phong National Park and the top of Khoa Sun Kwang Mountain in Khon Kaen county, 50 min drive from Khon Kaen City.

Rock structure is Sandstone of great quality. There are hundreds of boulder with lines that provides diferent stiles of climbing from crimp, jug, slab, overhang to technical climbing. As in 2015, we have a complete bouldering topo of many, many routes in 6 sectors available on 27crags. But there are so many more unclimbed boulders with great potential. If you’d like to develop new lines, please let us know to make sure there is not a line there already

We have been working closely with the Nam Phong National Park and Zoo directors, and we are authorized to develop and climb boulders in the Meadow area and the zoo. The National Park and zoo are open daily from 8:00 AM to sunset. The only thing is that you are required to pay an entry fee to both areas. This fee includes other awesome amenities in the Nam Phong National Park and zoo area, like clean restrooms, restaurants and shops, and animal viewing.

KKCC hosted the International Khon Kaen Bouldering Festival at Zoolander in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Hin Changsi and Zoolander have been visited and climbed by many local and international strong climbers. The grade ranges from V0 -V13, with a potential of harder grade.

We have a complete bouldering topo of the 5 established sectors, with many routes, at https://27crags.com/areas/zoolander
Profit from selling bouldering topo from 27crags will go to KKCC development fund.

Getting There

Google Hin ChangsiNam Phong National Park ( Coordinates ). It’s about 40 min drive to the park entrance gate, drive west and northwest from Khon Kaen City. To reach the Hin Changsi climbing area, the Meadow bouldering sector, we recommend you to have your own vehicle because the boulder road does not have public transportation . You should rent a motorbike in the city, a car at the airport on arrival, or hire a car and driver from Khon Kaen city from travel companies.

Google Khon Kaen Zoo (coordinate 16.84507, 102.89714). It’s about 50 min drive north from KK city on Mitraphap road, then turn right into Kao Suan Kwang road. In fact, you can also take a train and get out at Kao Suan Kwang station, then take a Sam-Lor (tricycle) for 2 km to the zoo. But the zoo staff does not recommend Sam-Lor because they will try to rip you off! This is a sad thing about Thailand. The price of Sam-Lor to the zoo and back might get you a car rental from KK city. We also recommend you to have your own vehicle because the boulder road is far from the front entrance and up the hill. The loop road is 7.29 miles (11.73 km) long. It’s a long walk!
